So you want to talk about race?
Join the APA’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee on Wednesday, January 19th for an interactive workshop led by antiracism expert, Alexis Dawson! Please RSVP here.
The 90 minute workshop (7:00 – 8:30 pm) will explore:
- Race and racism and systemic oppression
- Unpacking unconscious bias
- Raising antiracist children (how to talk to your kids about race!)
- Anti-Black racism in the TDSB
- School data analysis
- What can parents/caregivers and school councils do to confront racism
The workshop is the first of a 3-part series that Alexis will facilitate for our school:
- February 16: Book Club (“So You Want to Talk About Race” by Ijeoma Oluo – add this book to your holiday reading list!)
- April 7: School Improvement Plan Workshop
Alexis Dawson’s Bio
Alexis Dawson is an antiracism trainer, public education advocate and former Toronto District School Board Trustee. She was the 2019 recipient of the City of Toronto’s Access, Equity and Human Rights William P. Hubbard Race Relations Award for her work around equity of access to education for underserved students. Alexis is a long-time school council co-chair and sits on several boards and committees dedicated to Black student achievement.
