Principal’s Message

Dear Parents,

As the end of the year approaches, I want to take this opportunity to share with you some staff changes at Allenby next year.

Ms. Larosa will be leaving Allenby to become the principal at Rolph Road Public School in the fall (click here to read letter from Vicky Branco and Jennifer Arp). Although Ms. Larosa has only been with us for a short time, she will be greatly missed by staff, students, parents and of course by myself as she has been a true partner in leading Allenby. Although, I know that her time at Allenby helped prepare her to take on the role of principal at Rolph Road, she leaves behind big shoes to fill.

We welcome Deborah Zamin to the vice principal role for the coming year. Deborah comes with an extensive background in French Immersion and curriculum knowledge and I am confident that she will fill the shoes left behind from Sandra.

We have two exceptional teachers at Allenby who are retiring this year. Mr. Galofaro and Mr. Osborne are going to be so greatly missed as their impact is large. Please join us on June 22nd at 4:30pm for a garden party on the terrace to celebrate their teaching careers and wish them the best on their retirement.

Mrs. Stephens is returning to Allenby in September. Mrs. Stephens has been enjoying a four-over-five having travelled the world. However, I know that I speak on behalf of the students, staff and families that we are thrilled to have her return.

Just as we have a teacher returning from a four-over-five, we have a teacher taking one. We wish Mr. Intini all the best as he embarks on a different adventure for the year ahead.

We say goodbye to Mme Centeno who has accepted a position at Fern Avenue Public School which affords her the ability to work closer to home. Although this is a loss to the Allenby Community, I know that she will go on to do amazing things for the students, families and colleagues at Fern Avenue.

Mr. Whitaker, Ms. Tulk, Mr. Gulamhusain, Mr. Bowers, Mme Wilson and Mr. Cohen will no longer be assigned to Allenby, as their long-term occasional assignments conclude. I want to thank them for their commitment and dedication to Allenby. They are all great teachers, even this early in their careers, and they will be greatly missed. We certainly hope to have them return to Allenby in the future in some capacity.

Just as we lose some teachers, we gain some. When hiring new staff members I always look for ‘the best’. This year many of ‘the best’ came from one school, Armour Heights Public School. We welcome Mr. Mark Barta, Ms. Melanie Fineberg and Ms. Barbara Lenet all from Armour Heights. We also welcome Janelle Rowlatt who is coming to us from Rockford Public School. Janelle comes highly recommended, including from Mme Caruso (who we were happy to have on staff last year) who worked alongside Janelle when they both taught in York Region. We look forward to welcoming all of these exceptional teachers to Allenby.

We want to thank Mme Oyebode the ECE in Room 108b for her work this year with the kindergarten students as she replaced Mme Guerin on parental leave.

We also want to wish Ms. Batler well as she will be off next year on a parental leave following the birth of her first child. We know that she will make a wonderful mother given the nurturing, patience and excitement that she brings to the kindergarten program.

I am still hiring for a position and will update the community once this position is filled.
