Over the past week there have been many initiatives and events that have brought the spirit of Valentine’s Day alive at Alllenby. Our grade 5/6 class participated in “Random Acts of Kindness” week bringing smiles to staff and students alike while inspiring others to “pay it forward.” A grade 5 class created heart pins to distribute to anyone that they see feeling down while a grade 3 class created friendship pins to give to their peers and adults in the building who exhibit kindness. Acts of kindness were extended to those outside of our building with a grade 5/6 class writing letters to me explaining their learning about the refugee crisis and their commitment to make a difference. The entire school enjoyed frozen yogurt on Valentine’s Day while raising money for Kids Help Phone, all because of the efforts of our Free the Children team at Allenby.
Finally today the staff will celebrate the end of Secret Valentine week with a potluck lunch. Thank you to staff and students for making Valentine’s Day about kindness, giving back and bringing a smile to those around you…reminding us that Valentine’s Day is not a Hallmark holiday (as my husband often refers to it before relenting) but what we make of it!
Enjoy this upcoming long weekend with family, we will see you on Tuesday.
