This fall, there are a number of opportunities for your child to participate in athletics at Allenby. The following school teams are offered for boys and girls in grades 4–6, but students will have to try out in order to make these specific teams:
⋆ Grade 6 Team (only boys in grade 6 can try out)
⋆ Grade 5 Team (boys in a grade 4 or grade 5 can try out)
Girls Football (gr. 4–6)
Boys Soccer (gr. 4–6)
Girls Soccer (gr. 4–6)
Any students in grades 1–6 can also participate on our cross-country running team. Students who join will have to attend weekly practice regularly and demonstrate that they can complete the following distances in order to compete at the Regional Meet in October:
Grades 1–2 1.0 kilometre (5 Laps)
Grade 3 1.5 kilometres (7 laps)
Grades 4–6 2.0 kilometres
Cross-country running practices will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The grades 1–3 students will meet at the school to practice. They will run around the track while students in grades 4–6 should meet at Eglinton Park near the north baseball diamond, and we will all walk back to school at 8:30 a.m.
Practice schedules are updated weekly on the school announcements, the Athletics bulletin board outside the gym, and in the weekly APA email newsletter.
Students in grades 1–6 will also be given the opportunity to join in one of several house leagues offered at Allenby. These are run during morning and afternoon recess breaks and during lunchtime activity breaks. Students have the chance to join the house league program during the first two weeks of September and can sign up during gym class. Different sports and games are offered during the school year, and all students are encouraged to participate.
PLEASE NOTE: Any students who would like to try out for these athletic opportunities must complete a permission form allowing them to try out for any school teams during the 2018–2019 school year. Forms are available in the gym office or you can access them online on the Allenby school website.
