CBC story
In case you were wondering what the news crew was doing at Allenby last Thursday, it was doing a story on pedestrian safety issues at Allenby and the need for enforcement of the 40 km/hr speed limit on Avenue Road.
The Allenby parent community came out in large numbers in support of automated speed enforcement (ASE) during the Provincial consultation in the Fall, and that captured the attention of CBC producers who sent a crew to see what a day in the life of walking to Allenby Junior Public School is like. Many thanks to our Principal Tracey O’Toole who continues to advocate for the safety of our students, Lisa Parker and the APA, as well as the Traffic Safety Subcommittee for their continued work on the issue.

Reporting missing crossing guards
We appreciate the reports from parents about missing crossing guards. We have been in continuous dialog with the City of Toronto and Councillor Colle’s office on this issue. We have confirmed with the City that the best way to report these absences is to call 311 and report the day, time, and intersection where the guard is missing, and the reports will be triaged to the crossing guard program. We are also investigating the possibility of getting the shifts extended past 9 am to account for later kindergarten drop-off.
The next Traffic Safety Subcommittee meeting is Wednesday March 4th at 7-9 pm in the library.
