Highlights from the January APA Meeting

The January APA meeting was held in the library on January 27. Exciting things are happening in our school every day and each APA meeting is our chance to better understand how our children are growing, learning and benefiting at our school!

Principal O’Toole discussed plans for outfitting all of our grade 1 and grade 2 classes with leveled book libraries. The school will be devoting $15,000 to this project and has asked the APA to contribute an additional $5,500. We had allocated $2,500 for literacy in our budget already, and will be voting on spending the extra $3,000 at the February APA meeting.

Principal O’Toole also presented a short term Allenby Technology Proposal that will see the school spending $15,000 to “fill the gaps,” making sure that each classroom is equitably equipped. The APA has been asked to support the proposal by spending and additional $8,000.

Many of our junior students represent our school at various TDESSA organized sporting events and some teams are lacking uniforms. A motion was put forward to spend up to $2,7000 on Allenby sports teams uniforms and this will be voted on in February. A motion was also passed to spend $650 on T-shirts for the swim team. The T-shirts will remain the property of the school and be used year to year as an “on deck” uniform.

We also chatted about our hot lunch program, bringing back Walking Wednesday, the various Speaker Series that are coming up and Schoolapalooza. Businesses have shown their support of our school and our community through their donations of close to $50,000. It’s our turn now, to support our own school and our own community, by purchasing tickets and coming out to a great evening and a great event being hosted by a great committee of Allenby parents!
