Heritage Months & Days of Significance

The TDSB is proud to recognize important days of significance throughout the school year, including a number of heritage and history months. TDSB Committees, made up of community members and staff, are in place for many of these to plan activities that celebrate the month and our diverse TDSB community.

This Month is Hindu Heritage Month:

This November, the TDSB is celebrating Hindu Heritage Month to honour the rich culture and contributions of Hindu Canadians across the country. Hinduism is one of the world’s oldest living religions, promoting beautiful values like kindness, truthfulness, and peace for all living things. Hindu Canadians have positively influenced our community in many areas, including science, arts, and education. A major festival that often happens this time of year is Diwali, the Festival of Lights, which celebrates the victory of light over darkness. We encourage everyone to learn more about this vibrant culture by reading a book, learning the greeting “Namaste” (meaning, “I bow to the divine in you”), or drawing a colourful rangoli design! Happy Hindu Heritage Month!

This Month is Lebanese Heritage Month:

This November, the TDSB is celebrating Lebanese Heritage Month! This month is an opportunity to recognize the contributions of Lebanese Canadians to the community and to learn about their rich history and culture. Since the arrival of the first Lebanese immigrants in 1882, Lebanese Canadians have enriched our country through their expertise in many fields, including cuisine, research, medicine, arts, education and science, helping build the Canada we know and cherish today. We are proud that Canada is home to one of the largest Lebanese diasporas in the world, a community whose values of family, hard work and generosity resonate deeply with our own.
