At the APA meeting last week we spent a lot of time discussing FDK (Full-Day Kindergarten) and its impact on Allenby. We also reviewed the PART process. Thanks to everyone who came to the meeting. There were many insightful questions and comments, making for a very thorough discussion.
To view the notes from the meeting you can go to the page on the APA website dedicated to FDK. If you click on the FDK tab, it will take you to all of the updates on FDK. There will continue to be updates at the APA meetings and in the weekly Allenby update.
Three Public meetings have been scheduled over the next couple of months:
- Public Meeting #1 – March 20th: The first Public meeting has been changed from March 21 to March 20th. An invitation was sent home in your child’s backpack. The meeting will focus on sharing key information about the challenges and opportunities facing these schools as they prepare to implement Full-Day Kindergarten (FDK) in September 2014. Communities from the five schools will be together and there will be time for questions from the audience.
- Public Meeting #2 – April 16th: The second Public meeting will be held on April 16th. This will be a working meeting where each school will meet in a separate room to discuss possible options, workable solutions and impacts of the implementation of FDK in their school.
- Public Meeting #3: May 15: At this final meeting, the PART committee will present its findings, in preparation for the report that will go to the Board of Trustees. There will be time for questions and comments from the audience.
All meetings will take place in Lawrence Park CI, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
There will be 2 more PART (private) committee meetings on April 2, and April 30th. We will provide a summary of those meetings and keep you informed as we move through this process.
