As we enjoy the fall season, we also come together to recognize October as Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month. This is a time not only to raise awareness but also to build understanding, acceptance, and support for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) within our community.
Autism affects how people perceive the world and interact with others. As a school community, our goal is to create a space where every child feels valued and supported. By learning more about autism, we can challenge misconceptions and celebrate the unique strengths of those on the spectrum.
Here’s how we can contribute this month:
- Learn and Share: Explore books or online resources to better understand autism, and share your knowledge to spark conversations about inclusion.
- Promote Inclusion: Encourage your children to be kind and inclusive to classmates with different learning and social/emotional needs. Simple gestures like a smile or offering help can make a big difference.
Let’s use this month to continue fostering a compassionate community where every student is celebrated and supported.
