The mindful lunch program is back by popular demand! This year it will run from January 15 to May 20. The program has expanded and will be available in 3 blocks to students in grades 1-6 on Fridays at lunch. Sign up is across from the office on the interactive mindfulness wall. Students can sign up all week for the class held on the same Friday. Please see the schedule below.
We have expanded the class size to 15 and the sessions will be held in the library. The sessions are organized in five week blocks, allowing all grades a chance to experience aspects of mindfulness. Students will learn ways to foster positive well-being, attention, self-awareness, compassion and gratitude. All classes will have a similar format and will explore different mindfulness practices.
The classes are voluntary allowing kids to choose if they wish to “try on mindfulness” that particular day over their lunch recess. Over the 5 week block, all students should have a chance to attend a mindfulness class. There will be a sign-up sheet with 15 spots every week, and a waiting list to help organize attendance. Students who have NOT attended a class need to register on the sign-up sheet. Students who have attended a class are asked to sign the waiting list and if spots are available that week they are more than welcome to attend the class again. This will help ensure that everyone gets a chance to try the class. Ideas and inspiration for mindful living will also be shared through posts on the interactive mindful wall.
The classes are developed and run by Veronica Takes, an Allenby parent, occupational therapist and mindfulness educator. For more information call 416-371-8580 or email Victoria Takes. To view schedule, please click here.
