About EQAO

Allenby has a strong tradition of being very proud of the EQAO assessment results that our students attain.

  • The EQAO (Education Quality and Accountability Office) is an independent government body that develops and oversees standardized tests for students in grades 3, 6, 9 and 10 in the areas of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
  • The Ministry of Education and school boards may use the results to change overall direction, policy or programs.  Schools can use the data from the assessments to allocate funds to support classrooms and teacher professional development.
  • The EQAO assessments are only a “snapshot” of how students are performing in specific areas using one assessment tool.  Teachers use many different assessment tools to understand what their students are learning and understanding.

Parents and guardians can support their children’s learning by showing an interest in what occurs at school through asking questions about what discussions occur in the classroom and keeping in touch with teachers to know how to extend the learning that occurs at school.  There are great tips for parents/guardians on the People for Education website and more information on the EQAO website.  Many games help to assist with kids learning (Chess, Cribbage, Battleship) as well as helping around the home with household tasks (making a shopping list and estimating the costs of the weekly grocery bill).
