Principal’s Message

I have heard some teachers throughout the school in recent days state that they are teaching “pool”. This means that parents continue to ask about teacher assignments. Please stop asking, as you will not hear what you are searching for and will simply initiate an awkward conversation that ends in “pool”. Teaching assignments, as outlined, will be provided in the final report card.

Thank you to those parents/guardians who provided input for class placements for 2017-2018. As stated in the letter, requests for specific teachers or classrooms will be disregarded. Placement in a low end of a combined grade classroom (i.e., a grade 4 student placed in a grade 4/5 classroom) will not provide any child with enrichment by virtue of being with older children. The expectation in ALL classrooms, combined or single grades, is that instruction is differentiated and that groupings will exist to promote guided/ small group instruction in order to meet the needs of all learners. Students in any classroom might function a grade or two above or below others academically, socially, emotionally, etc. In all cases, we will work towards building balanced classrooms based on a variety of information sources. Thank you once again for your input and continued partnership.

Junior Kindergarten Open House
As I write about next year, I am reminded about our new junior kindergarten students who will be joining us in September. On June 8 from 9:15 am to 10:30 am we will be hosting a Kindergarten Open House for junior kindergarten students and their parents. Invitations were provided at registration. We look forward to meeting you on the 8th and sharing a glimpse of what next year has to offer at Allenby.

For all families, the 2017-2018 TDSB School Year Calendar has been approved. The 2017-2018 school year at the TDSB begins on Tuesday, September 6, 2017 following the Labour Day long weekend. For more information about important dates and holidays for the upcoming school year, click here.

As I look to next year it is with mixed emotions as two Allenby “fixtures” will not be with us. Mr. Galofaro and Mr. Osborne are both retiring after 27 and 26 years respectively.

Mr. Galofaro (a.k.a Mr. G) has been the Phys. Ed teacher at Allenby for many years. He is well known and highly respected across the TDSB and has been a true asset to the Allenby staff, students and community. Mr. Osborne began his teaching career at Allenby in Phys. Ed and is ending it this year alongside Mr. G. Over his many years at Allenby, he has had many roles at Allenby, including teacher-librarian. He is an exceptional teacher and will be greatly missed.

On June 22 we are having our annual staff/student softball game at 2:30pm which will provide the students an opportunity to say goodbye to these two amazing teachers and wish them our best in their retirement. At 4:30pm on the 22 Allenby staff and parents are co-hosting a garden party to bid them farewell and acknowledge their contributions to our school. We hope that you can join us! Please RSVP using the evite below.

Please join us as we celebrate the contributions of Mario Galofaro and Jeffrey Osborne, two long standing teachers at Allenby, who are retiring after twenty-seven and twenty-six years of service.

When: June 22 at 4:30pm
Where: Rooftop Terrace of Allenby Jr. P.S.

Please open the e-vite for full details and to RSVP by June 9.
