Help us Support Rudy’s Family

Parents approaching Allenby from the east side over the past few weeks noted that our beloved crossing guard, Rudy, was missing from his usual position at Avenue and St. Clements, where, for years, he has ensured the safety of our children. The reason for his absence was an incomprehensible tragedy that has devastated his family. On May 26th, Rudy’s youngest daughter, Rhoderie Estrada, was the victim of a home invasion and was killed. She was only 41-years-old; a nurse, a wife, a sister, a friend, a mother to three children and renowned for her constant smile.

We would like to organize support to Rudy’s grandchildren from the Allenby community. Tuesday, June 19th will be “Toonies for Rudy” day at Allenby. In order not to frighten the children, students will be told that the daughter of one of our crossing guards died suddenly and we are raising money to support the family. For parents who wish to make an additional contribution, a collection box will be kept in the office until Friday, June 23rd (please donate in cash). All money raised will go to a trust fund that has been established for Rhoderie’s children.

Thank you for supporting Rudy through this difficult time.
