What’s New in the Library?

Library Volunteers Wanted!

As many parents know, the Allenby library is a very busy place. We have high circulation of books, our computer lab and SMART board very well used, and there are many different classes and groups of students using the library at any given time.  We need a roster of parent volunteers to keep things running smoothly in the library.  Volunteer jobs can involve anything from shelving materials, checking books in and out, assisting students, or creating Accelerated Reader quizzes.  If you’ve got some time to spare and would like to help out, please contact Mme. Payne in the library or let the office know.  No prior knowledge or experience is necessary, just a little bit of time to give.  Thank you to our Allenby parents for your help in getting the school year off to a great start in the library!

The Book Fair is Coming Up!

Allenby’s annual Book Fair will be held from Monday September 24 to Thursday September 27.  All students in the school will have the opportunity to come down and peruse the selection of books available for purchase at the Book Fair over the course of the week.  The book fair will also be open until 6:30 pm on Thursday September 27 to give families the opportunity to come in and browse together.  All proceeds from the book fair are used to purchase new materials to be added to the library collection.  Parent volunteers are also needed to help with sales at the Book Fair.  If you are available to help out, please let Madame Payne know!

Comfy Corner

One of our library couches was in very poor condition and sadly had to be disposed of over the summer.  If you happen to be redecorating or upgrading your furniture at home, and have a couch that is in reasonably good condition that you’d like to donate to the Allenby library’s comfy corner, please come and speak with Madame Payne.

Circulation News

Circulation is now up and running, and students are beginning to use the library regularly.  Please ensure that you know when your children’s library book exchange days are, and help them to be prepared by reminding them to pack their books in their backpacks on the appropriate day.  Students must return their books before being allowed to sign out new ones.  Also, students in grades 3 to 6 are expected to memorize their student numbers for logging-in to school computers and using the automated book circulation system.  Teachers have made students aware of their student numbers if they didn’t know them already, so please help by quizzing your children at home to help them memorize their numbers.  Thank you!
