Recap of December 15th Meeting

The APA held a meeting for Allenby parents on Thursday, December 15th to discuss various potential processes that may be rolled out by the TDSB in the new year to address the existing over-crowding at Allenby and to deal with the need to find space for full-day kindergarten, which will arrive at Allenby in 2014-2015.

At the meeting we: (1) advised parents that we understand this Fall the TDSB Staff have begun internal discussions regarding space accommodation issues at Allenby and other schools; (2) informed parents about the various potential TDSB processes available if the TDSB were to move forward and address this issue; (3) re-assured parents that if the TDSB wished to move ahead with any changes there will be opportunity for parent and community feedback before any decisions were made, and (4) most importantly, asked parents who may wish to engage in any such process, as either a member of a committee or as a leader, to come forward and let us know.

Leading up to the meeting, we became aware of rumours circulating throughout the school that Allenby would no longer be a dual track French/English school.
We emphasized at the meeting that absolutely no proposals have been tabled and no dialogue with the Allenby school or parent body has begun. It is premature to discuss options and it is unproductive to spread such rumours. If you have any questions about the information provided at the meeting, please contact Lisa Spiegel and Rochelle Fox at APACommunityAwareness@yahoo.ca.

As well, we are encouraging any parents who wish to be part of a committee to respond to any process that the TDSB may put in place or be a leader on such a committee to contact Lisa and Rochelle:  APACommunityAwareness@yahoo.ca by January 15, 2012.  If you are interested, please include in your email whether your children are in the English or French Immersion tracks or both.  We want to ensure a representation from both tracks and we are aiming to have the committee represent all stakeholders in the Allenby parent body.
