Dear Allenby Parents and Guardians,
As September approaches, everyone is thinking about the return to school. Special dates, such as the annual Curriculum Night (Tuesday, September 24th) are put on the calendars, and indoor shoes and other apparel items are being labeled with names or initials. Coloured pencils and fresh erasers are on the list for school supplies, and perhaps a new back pack or lunch bag. I am very excited about starting a new school year at Allenby and plan to get to know all of the students and families. Please feel free to contact me through email if you have a question that your child(ren)’s teachers cannot answer.
Our goal at Allenby is to challenge our students to learn how to think and reason in order to effectively solve problems and develop social skills, within the classroom, the school yard and the community. One role of the school system is to create an environment that will nurture future global citizens, and with this goal in mind, Allenby continues to promote the ECO School initiatives set out by the province and the school board. Students are encouraged to think GREEN throughout their day and to understand that our choices have an impact, locally and globally. All students who remain at school for lunch are expected to bring food items in reusable containers. Any food packaging will return home. We are working towards having a composting procedure in place for fruit and vegetable waste to complement our current BOOMERANG Lunch programme. Students living in the Allenby catchment area are expected to walk to/from school to promote physical activity for personal health and energy conservation for the health of the planet. Together, we can set an example for other schools to follow.
On Tuesday, September 3rd, classroom numbers for grades 1 -6 will be posted on the St. Clements fencing and students will be lining up according to room numbers once the 8:55 AM entry bell rings. Teachers will be outside to greet students and confirm student names on class lists. Once the entry bell rings, all parents/guardians are asked to say their good-byes to their children at the fence. (New families are invited to come to the office with their children if they are not able find the correct line up for their children.) The inclement weather plan will be to move inside to the lunchroom/gym, however, all parents/guardians are asked to remain outside as there will not be sufficient room for families in the school. The Ministry of Education is mandating that schools move quickly to improve security measures; we will be counting on all parents/guardians to follow strict school protocols for accessing school property and gaining entry into the school building. More information will be forthcoming as new security measures are implemented. Thank you in advance for your support.
Enjoy the long weekend! Happy September to all! Watch for the launch of the new school website too!
