As much as I would like to continue discussing the lessons we can learn from the Jays given the results from today’s game (just when we started to think it may be over?!), I need to discuss some important events coming up next week.
Picture day
All kindergarten and junior classes (grades 4-6) will have their pictures taken on Monday, October 26 (this will ensure that junior girls involved in softball don’t miss picture day). All primary classes (grades 1 to 3, including our grade 3/4 class) will have their pictures taken on Tuesday, October 27. Classes will be scheduled to ensure pictures take place before pool time on these days. Please ensure that you return your picture orders on time as the company will apply late fees for orders not received by the deadline. As job action continues, we will be collecting picture orders in a bin in the office. Students will be reminded to bring their orders to the office through regular announcements (for kindergarten classes we will pick up from the classrooms before the due date). There is a picture retake day on Tuesday, November 17 for any students who miss their Picture Day.
Halloween parade
Halloween is a big event in schools and provides opportunities for parties, creative activities, art programs and of course our annual Halloween Parade. This year our Halloween Parade will take place near the end of the school day to facilitate more parents being able to join us and allow all classes participate in the parade outside. Our kindergarten classes will start their parade around the track at 2:45 p.m. Following their parade, kindergarten classes will either sit on the rocks to watch the rest of the school or go to the kindergarten yard to play before pick up. The Grade 1 to 6 classes will start their parade at 3:00 p.m. Parents that would like to join us to view the parade are asked to stand in the field to ensure they are not blocking any pathways for students (students will be walking the track). In the event of rain, students will travel throughout the building; however, please understand that we cannot facilitate parents in the building to view the parade given the capacity of our building and our narrow hallways.
When selecting a costume to be worn to school, please ensure that your child can see clearly if wearing a mask and that no toy weapons are brought to school. When contributing food items to any class parties, please ensure that they are nut free, we would hate for a student to have an anaphylactic reaction on one of the most fun days of the year.
As mentioned at the beginning of the year, I will be visiting various classes over the week to share my knowledge of bats as well, a number of classes (including the office) are participating in a pumpkin carving contest. I must admit the office staff and I have decided that we are working hard this weekend on our carving skills…you will be able to see our entry on the office counter next week.
Next week will be a busy week as well with our next APA Meeting and hopefully further Jays’ games to watch in the World Series, fingers crossed.
