Fall Frenzy – Athletics Update

This fall has been a busy (and rewarding) season for sports at Allenby.

The school year started off with Cross Country running. Close to 200 students in grades 1 through 6 practiced Tuesday and Thursday mornings to get ready for the first round of competition that took place at Earl Bales Park early in October. We had 40 students make it to the next round. And then, after a grueling run on a cold October morning, we had 12  junior students qualify for the city finals! Cross Country running is an excellent way to introduce fitness and fun to our students. All primary and junior students are invited to join the team and this year, some of our best runners were in the primary grades. Thanks to Mr. Leaney, Mr. Whittaker, Mr. Gillespie, Ms. Meijer and Mme Berces for supporting our runners throughout the season! Watch for Cross Country call out announcements next September.

Mr. G did not mess around with football this year and entered 3 football teams into the TDESSA competition stream. Congratulations go out to the Grade 6 Green Team and the Grade 6 Gold Team. They worked hard and had a tonne of fun! The Grade 5 Team did extremely well and finished up their season as conference finalists. Way to bring home the banner Grade 5’s!

The Boys Baseball team also had an extremely successful season and came out on top as Conference finalists. Congratulations to this hard-working team of boys. Thanks to Ms. Anderson and Mr. G for their time and efforts in coaching our baseball champs.

Through their discipline, hard work and school spirit, our young athletes brought home a total of 4 banners this fall! The banners will be displayed with pride in the office throughout the rest of the school year. Thanks to all who supported the efforts of our athletes!
