Or maybe you’d like to get more involved with greening initiatives in the community. As always, we are looking for parents to continue our greening projects after this year. We are also looking for parent volunteers to help with this year’s greening projects. Please look at the following things, and contact Alex Vilde at alex.vilde@rogers.com if you are able to help with any of them.
Bulb planting: October, Included soil preparation on a weekend or evening, and 1-1 1/2 days for every student in the school to plant a bulb
Eco-audits: every month, 1-2 recesses a month to check all the classrooms to see how good the everyone is at recycling, and determining what is garbage.
Boomerang lunch: September, 1 week of reminding children during lunch what they need to take home after eating their lunch. This alkso involves training the grade 5’s so they can take over the reminding.
Canada Blooms donations: March and April, pick-up and care of plants donated by Canada Blooms until they can be planted outside.
Spring planting: April/May, soil prep during the weekend, and 1 day of planting plants donated by Canada Blooms, and purchased from Nurseries in the area. The planting is done by parents and eco-reps from every classroom.
Alex Vilde, Coordinator of EcoSchools and Greening, will be “graduating” in June. We would really like to find people who are able to take over some of these opportunities.
