Our City Councillor, Karen Stintz, has confirmed that she will be holding a Community Meeting to determine traffic and parking needs around Allenby Public School. The meeting will be held on Wednesday April 27th, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Allenby library. All residents and parents are welcome to attend.
The following proposal has been submitted by the APA to Councillor Stintz’s office and will be one of the proposals discussed that night:
1. Kiss and Ride Zone on Castlefield Ave. (north side) – change signs so that there are no signs in the area except the following:
- No Stopping 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. Monday to Friday
- 10 minute parking 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday
2. Castlefield Ave. (north side) from west of Kindergarten zone to Castlewood Rd. – change permit parking back to the original signs:
- No Parking 12:01 a.m.-7:00 a.m. Except by Permit
3. St. Clements Ave. (south side) from west of Allenby School to Castlewood Rd.- change permit parking back to the original signs:
- No Parking 12:01 a.m.-7:00 a.m. Except by Permit
4. Castlefield Ave. (north side) in Kindergarten Zone – return signage hours to:
- No Stopping 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday
- Extend current Tow Away Zone to west end of Kindergarten Yard to make it consistent with the “No Stopping” zone
These changes would correct mistakes made by the City when implementing previous sign change requests and are intended to improve safety for drivers, residents, pedestrians, and students around Allenby Public School. Changes are proposed to the permit parking on one side of the street only to allow for parking before 9:30a.m. so that residents can have visitors and workers to their homes and parents/visitors can legally park near the school leaving the streets directly adjacent to the school clear. The reason for suggesting parking on the south side of St. Clements and the north side of Castlefield is to reinforce the desired flow of traffic east along St. Clements and west along Castlefield, and to discourage students from having to cross the street to reach or leave the school.
We are looking forward to a positive outcome.
