Last night we spoke about parent engagement and particularly meeting attendance. While our meeting attendance seems to be at an all-time high, we feel we can do better. Our November 29th APA meeting will see a change in the agenda where we will first focus on APA information and sharing, then hear about school related updates and for the last 30 minutes, encourage an open forum where parents can ask questions, provide suggestions or share comments/concerns. We are also considering streaming our meetings to make them accessible to those who can’t attend in person.
We also discussed, at length, the TDSB’s Enhancing Equity Task Force Recommendations. A small group of parents have committed to reading and understanding the 97-page draft report so that we may bring forward key pieces that may be of interest to the Allenby community. More about this report will be highlighted in next weeks’ newsletter, but we would also encourage parents to read the full report here.
From a fundraising perspective we discussed how we can, as a committee and as a community, better “support our supporters”. Our local businesses generously support Allenby through donations to and sponsorship of our events and we would like to make sure that we are working at giving the support back and continuing to build and nurture these relationships.
We have a very diverse group of parents on the Executive Committee – parents with children of all ages, from the French panel and the English panel, with differing perspectives on all of the issues. And, while we think that the parent community is well represented by this Committee, we always invite you to bring forward any comments or suggestions that you think we should be considering and discussing. Please contact Lisa Parker or Gillian Uy any time.
