EDUCATION IS THE BEST PROVISION FOR THE JOURNEY TO OLD AGE. ~ Aristotle
Dear Allenby Families,
The staff at Allenby hope that all of our students and families have enjoyed the summer months away from the classroom. As many of you can see, the school construction work is nearing completion, and we are working to prepare the inside of the building for September 2nd. Our caretaking staff have been putting in many long hours due to the added work of the ongoing renovations and improvements to many of the classrooms.
In other news, we are pleased to welcome many new staff members to Allenby next week. Ms. Frances Themeliopoulos is amazed at the size of Allenby, and is ready to jump into the role of Vice Principal. She is looking forward to meeting the students and families over the next few weeks.
Mme. Jessica Berces is very eager to meet her students in room 207 for grade 3/4 French Immersion. She will have many stories to share about her teaching experience in France.
Although we are very sad to have to say goodbye to Ms. Danielle Shin who has been working at Allenby for several months in kindergarten, we are happy to congratulate her on obtaining a permanent kindergarten position at John Wanless. Mrs. Monika Chopra is very excited about coming to Allenby to become part of our full-day kindergarten (FDK) team, along with many keen Early Childhood Educators including Charlotte Batler, Jillian Guerin, Olga Ianosev, Brigette Rose and Vanessa Williams. Each FDK classroom will also have a Lunch Room Supervisor to support our kindergarten students over the lunch break; we are pleased to welcome Monica Brasil, Isabel Byrnes, Nancy Campos, Sarah Greenall, Monique Fulano, Courtney Puddister, and Jeannie Wu as well.
Mrs. Kristie Nixon will be getting room 211 ready this week to fill in for Ms. Alberti as she recovers from her surgery. Mrs. Sherman is taking some time away from Allenby as she embarks on a new path through OISE instructing teachers. Mrs. Sharma will be assuming a Special Education role in September.
Class lists for grades 1 to 6 will be posted on the school website on Thursday, August 28th and will also be posted at the school near the lunchroom. For privacy reasons, students will be identified by their student number, which appears on the Ontario Report Card. On the first day of school, staff will be outside around 8:40 a.m. to greet students and help everyone find where their class is to line up when the entry bell rings at 8:55 a.m. If it rains, we will have to move everyone into the gym, where unfortunately there will not be room for any parents or guardians to join us.
September is almost here – so please do enjoy these last few days of the summer break, and use that positive energy to bring sunshine for our first day of school.
