Principal’s Message

Dear Allenby families,

It is hard to believe that we are fast approaching the end of week 2 back at school.  Thanks to Ms. Payne for finding an almost paperless way for families to participate in the Birthday Book Club. We already have had several birthday books that have been ordered, so thank you for the support.

Now that classroom routines are set and the students have mastered most of them, we are strongly reminding parents and guardians to say their morning goodbyes at the fence and let their child(ren) line up with the teachers. If parents/guardians come into the school, they will be directed to go to the office to sign in. Teachers are getting students ready for the school day and are not able to set aside time for even a “quick chat”. Please set up an appointment time if you would like to meet with a teacher, and help our teachers make “kids our first priority” during the school day. ALSO, students need to learn to be independent and feel competent. This will only happen when the caring adults in their lives show confidence in their ability to follow expectations on their own.

Fall is the season when all creatures, great and small, are preparing for the colder weather (hard to believe after the heat wave that we just experienced). One downside to this is the abundance of stinging insects that are aggressively seeking out any form of sugar.  Although we will be vigilant in taking in the garbage each day, there is a large amount that collects after school is out.  It would be very helpful if students were to bring food in reusable containers to minimize the packaging that will attract more insects.

The FENCE and The FIELD have been on everyone’s mind. After many meetings and intensive consultation with various departments of the TDSB, we have been informed that the fencing will be removed the week of October 28th. The construction, that is not expected to commence until sometime in January, will not impact the new grassed area. Unfortunately, using the field at this point in time will result in the new plants dying and not surviving the winter. The APA and school are currently looking at long-range solutions for the field problems.
