Student Leader Training

The past couple of weeks have been busy with the training of some student leadership groups. The Grade 6 Peer Helpers had a half day of training from Mme. Linka and Ms. McGee, with the help of one of our nursing students. There are 55 of them! They are preparing to begin their duties supporting younger students outside at recess. A new group of Grade 5 leaders have also had a half day of training in the PALS program, which is run by Public Health and overseen by 2 staff members, Melissa Line and Todd Scott.  These students will be helping Grade 1 students during the Lunch Hour play time 2 days per week  to teach them some playground games and pro-social skills. There is a possibility of expanding this new program later in the year.  And, last, but not lease, the new Grade 5 Boomerangers, have been trained and started supporting ed the Boomerang Lunch program in the lunch room this past Monday.
