Until the lice check
If your child has lice, or you suspect they do, use one of the over the counter insecticide shampoos (recommended as two treatments about a week apart) and/or use lice combs daily for two weeks.
Comb in all directions, as the nits can attach to all sides of the hair shaft and might not be affected by combing straight down.
Please be vigilant in checking your children and not sending them to school unless they are lice and nit free.
- Head lice are not a sign of poor hygiene and can thrive in clean hair.
- Buzz cuts don’t help!! Lice may be easier to spot but lice-comb treatment is harder because the hair is too short to grip.
- Lice are especially prevalent at the crown of the head and all around the hairline (especially behind the ears).
- Washing bedding, hair accessories, nightclothes and drying at high heat is recommended.
