The Future of Allenby P.S.

thumbtack note important

The APA invites you to attend a very important meeting on Thursday, December 15 at 7pm regarding the future of Allenby as a K-6 dual stream school.

In the new year, we expect the TDSB to announce a formal consultation/ review process to address the overcrowding in a number of schools in the Ward 8 area, including Allenby.

We anticipate this to be an 18 month consultation/ review process with the resulting changes being implemented for September 2014 (the year full day kindergarten is coming to Allenby).

The APA has been advised that TDSB staff are currently conducting internal discussions before the formal announcement of the consultation/review process. There are no specific recommendations currently on the table. Similarly, as of today, no option is off the table. There is a strong possibility that the outcome of the consultation/ review process may mean changes to Allenby in the future including, for example, the programs offered at Allenby and/or changes to Allenby’s student boundaries and/or daycare.

While we will not have answers or solutions at our meeting, we will be able to provide some more information than is contained in this note.

The primary purpose of this meeting is to seek an expression of interest from all those who wish to be involved. There will be a significant and lengthy time commitment attached to this involvement. However, there will be different ways to engage in this important process.

We cannot emphasis enough that Allenby will need very strong leadership at the consultation table – from parents of both the French and English streams. We know there are parents who are well suited to this role. To those who are: please come out!

We look forward to seeing you at 7pm on Dec 15 in the Library.

Child-care will be provided. If needed, please advise Lori at lori.miller@rogers.com
