Many charitable organizations are struggling to keep up with demand during this difficult time. The APA will continue to offer ideas to families that want to help.
Daily Bread Food Bank
Many people are turning to Toronto’s food banks during the COVID pandemic. The Daily Bread Food Bank has seen a 32% spike in people accessing their locations over the last couple of weeks. The Bank is in immediate need of food and funds.
Donated funds are used to purchase foods in the most economical and efficient way possible. Families can also turn this into a learning opportunity at home. Nutrition, finances, and compassion/community service can be discussed and taught at home by sitting down together and building a shopping cart through Amazon.ca or Walmart.ca. Deliveries of online purchases will be accepted at the 191 New Toronto Street warehouse. Non perishable items can also be delivered to any local fire station.
More information and how to donate can be found here.
Toronto Foundation for Student Success
On a normal day, 200,293 students across Toronto receive nutritious breakfasts through their school-based Nutrition Programs. Schools are closed and these programs are not operating. To help fill this gap, TFSS has been working with Toronto-based school boards and volunteers from KPMG to get food cards to the families of children in need. Each child will receive a $50 food card, which is the cost of breakfast for 30 days. More information and how to donate can be found here.
