In June 2008, we welcomed a new Traffic Services Officer, Sgt Michael Perreault!
We still have a long way to go in terms of improving the safety on St Clements and Castlefield, as well as Avenue Rd, but the renewed interest in the safety of our school community is greatly appreciated. If you would like to contact Sgt Perrault to let him know just how much, e-mail him at Michael.Perreault@torontopolice.on.ca or call him directly at 416 808-5324. Better yet, let his boss (Inspector O'Connor) know at 416-808-5300.
Also, please don't forget to add your name to the (free) i-petition www.ipetitions. com/petition/avenueforsafety
Crossing Guards
- Crossing guards are on duty at Avenue Road and St Clements Avenue and and at
Roselawn Avenue and Castlewood Avenue from 8:30-9:00 am, from 11:40-12:00 pm, 12:30-1:05 pm, and 3:30-4:15 pm.
- Parents are urged to notify the police at 53 Division, 75 Eglinton Avenue West, at
416-808-2222 if the guard is not on duty during these hours.
Driving Safety
- Please travel WESTBOUND ONLY ON CASTLEFIELD Avenue and TRAVEL
EASTBOUND ONLY ON ST. CLEMENTS Avenue during the busy drop off and pickup times unless you need to park your vehicle on the south and north sides respectively.
- Please do NOT TURN AROUND in driveways and do NOT MAKE U-TURNS during
the busy pick-up and drop-off times.
- Please respect the NO PARKING and NO STOPPING signs on St. Clements Avenue.
Kiss N Ride:
- This program is designed to help with the safe arrival of children driven to school as
well as those who walk to school, by reducing traffic congestion and unsafe parking and driving.
- Parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate in the program. It has proven
to be a quick, efficient, and safe means of dropping off your child at school.
How to use Kiss N Ride:
- Approach the school westbound on Castlefield Avenue from Avenue Road.
- Stop in the designated area marked by orange pylons.
- A parent volunteer will help your child out of the car. Your child should be ready
to exit the vehicle with his or her backpack on his or her lap. Volunteers will not unbuckle seatbelts.
- Your child will then be escorted into the playground. Students in grades 4-6 can
walk by themselves to the playground.
- This program is for students in grades 1-6 and operates from 8:45-9:00 am.
Walking Wednesday On the first Wednesday of every month we ask all the students to walk to Allenby. Since we know that not all people can walk to school, we have some suggestions to at least walk on that day. 1) If you need to drive to work, and can't walk your child to school, take them to a friend's house and they can walk to school together. 2) If it is too far to walk, park your car far enough away (at the corner of Castlefield and Castlewood) and walk from there. 3) If your child is older, have them walk to school, and meet their friends along the way or perhaps even walk a younger child to school.
Allergies
Illness or Accidents
- Children will be sent to the office for assessment.
- Appropriate first aid (cleansing, bandages, ice packs, cold compresses etc.) will be
given.
- Children will be returned to class if all is well. Otherwise, parents will be notified.
- Parents will be notified of any head injury.
- If children are unable to come to the office, staff will assess the child wherever
he/she is (yard, class, gym, etc.) and notify the office
- In case of emergency, the office will notify parents and take appropriate measures
(call ambulance etc.)
Lice Information We'd like to stress that there is no stigma to having lice and anyone can get it. It is however very important to stress to parents that if their kids do have lice, it's necessary to let the school know and make sure that their child is checked at the office before they go back to school.
The Lice Squad has provided us with some very interesting information on lice: Facts of Lice and Lice Myths.

- All adult visitors must report to the office upon entering the building.
- Visitors/Volunteers must:
- Sign in and out of the visitor's log
- Wear a visitor's badge
Procedures Regarding Unauthorized Visitors
- Students are to report immediately to the office or nearest known adult if they see
strangers in the school or on the playground
- Staff is to inform the office immediately if a student reports seeing someone
suspicious. Staff must take the student to the office to give a description of the stranger. Police may be notified.
- Parents of students involved in an incident will be notified immediately.
- Staff is to be continually on the alert for unauthorized visitors. If a stranger is seen,
they can offer assistance or report immediately to the office.

classroom.
- Parents are to meet their children in the office if they have an appointment during
the day.
- Parents/guardians are to drop off/pick up their children outside the building at
entrance and dismissal times. Teachers will make parents/guardians aware of the closest outside areas where they can meet their children. Kindergarten parents please refer to the letters from your classroom teacher.
Lock-down The school will periodically conduct lock-down drills. Lock-down is used in case of an intruder entering school property. During lock-down, school staff lock themselves and students in school rooms, accounting for every student and staff member. By practicing lock-down, students are taught to remain calm, quiet, and avoid panic.
