Literacy Volunteer Sign Up Form
Parents, Guardians and retired community members etc. are invited to volunteer in the
school to support this new reading initiative that will have a direct impact on improving
student achievement in both English and French.  Volunteers will be partnered with
selected students to share reading in designated Literacy locations in the school.

The students and books will be carefully chosen by teachers so that the literacy
volunteers could meet with their student partner once a week in the Library.  All volunteers
will be provided with a Police Check (a TDSB Policy when working directly with students),
participate in a one-hour training workshop to promote consistency in the program, as well
as be given effective strategies to teach reading and even to support their own children at
home.

If you feel that you can devote a half an hour or more on a weekly basis we invite you to
be a literacy partner.  If you would like to volunteer for this program, please fill out the
Sign up form and return it to the school with your child or come into the office to sign up in
person.  We will set up a training session early in the third term.

As the saying goes, "It takes a village to raise a child" so this will be an important
partnership that, with your help, can make a difference for many of our students.

Pizza Lunch
We are very excited to continue with our “Litterless” Pizza Lunch Program. The Pizza
Lunch program will support the school in this effort by eliminating drinks due to the amount
of waste with the juice/water option.  Therefore, students will bring their own drink or
purchase milk for Pizza Lunch as they do any other day.

Please read carefully the Overview and Order instructions and return the
Order Form to
your child’s teacher by Tuesday,
September 17, 2010 to ensure that your child receives
pizza for our first pizza lunch on Friday,
September 24.

We will collect pizza lunch forms and payment for the entire year in September.  Cash or
cheque (made PAYABLE TO:  ALLENBY PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION or APA), preferably
cash will be accepted.  Please submit one Pizza lunch form and one cheque for each
child.  FORMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR THE FIRST PIZZA LUNCH AFTER
SEPTEMBER 17, 2009.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS!
A separate form and payment are required for each student.
Students will participate for the entire year.
ORDER FORM INSTRUCTIONS:
    1. Please choose cheese or pepperoni by placing a check mark next to your child’s
choice.  We are NOT offering the Cheese AND Pepperoni option this year.
    2. Please choose the number of slices below your choice of cheese or pepperoni.
Please order the same number of slices for the entire year.
This year, we are taking orders in September for the entire year.
We find that the “2 slices” option is what most children tend to eat (especially true for
Grades 1 & 2).
PLEASE NOTE:  Pizza Slices are the same size as last year.
WE APPRECIATE YOUR COOPERATION REGARDING THIS MATTER.

Please feel free to contact Stephanie Cohen at
stephcohen@rogers.com or Vivian
Souroujon at
Vivian@souroujon.com with any questions.
