Our grade 4-6 classes will have their pictures taken on Tuesday, October 24th. We have two grade six classes on a field trip on this day however, they will have their pictures taken upon their return as the grade six football teams are playing the following day.

All kindergarten, primary classes (grades JK to 3/4) will have their pictures taken on Wednesday, October 25th. Classes will be scheduled to ensure pictures take place before pool time on these days. Please ensure that you return your picture orders on time as the company will apply late fees for orders not received by the deadline.

There is a picture retake day on Tuesday, November 14th for any students who miss their Picture Day.

Spirit Day Friday, October 27th

This year many Caribbean countries and southern states were ravaged by Hurricanes Harvey and Maria. Many of these areas continue to experience the devastating effects left behind by these storms. On October 27th, the Spirit Day at Allenby will have a “Caribbean Beach Day” theme. As spirit days this year aim to raise awareness, we ask students to donate a loonie or toonie towards the Red Cross and their efforts to support these areas. Students are encouraged to wear their beach wear to school on the 27th (layers are likely needed based on the weather). As we celebrate “Beach Day, we will build awareness and empathy for the victims of these hurricanes.

Halloween Parade

Halloween is a big event in schools and provides opportunities for parties, creative activities, art programs and of course our annual Halloween Parade. Our Halloween Parade will take place near the end of the school day to facilitate more parents being able to join us and allow all classes participate in the parade outside. Our kindergarten classes will start their parade around the track at 2:45 pm. Following their parade, kindergarten classes will either sit on the rocks to watch the rest of the school or go to the kindergarten yard to play before pick up. The Grade 1 to 6 classes will start their parade at 3:00 pm. Parents that would like to join us to view the parade are asked to stand in the middle of the field to ensure they are not blocking any pathways for students (students will be walking the track). In the event of rain, students will travel throughout the building however, please understand that we cannot facilitate parents in the building to view the parade given the capacity of our building and our narrow hallways.

When selecting a costume to be worn to school, please ensure that your child can see clearly if wearing a mask and that no toy weapons are brought to school. When contributing food items to any class parties, please ensure that they are nut free, we would hate for a student to have an anaphylactic reaction on one of the most fun days of the year.

Classes will also be participating in our third annual pumpkin-carving contest. Pumpkins will be on display outside of the office.

Tracey O’Toole

Principal

Dear Parents, Picture Day Our Picture Day at Allenby takes place over two days given the size of our school.
