I want to extend an invitation to all parents to join us Wednesday October 5th<\/strong> for our Curriculum Night<\/strong>. Curriculum Night is a wonderful opportunity for parents to meet teachers in an \u201copen house\u201d forum beginning at 6:30 pm. We will begin the evening in the gym with a welcome assembly and then parents are invited to see the classrooms and meet the teachers in two sessions running from 7:00 to 7:30 and 7:30 to 8:00. The sessions are the same but hosting two sessions allows parents to visit two different classrooms. Teachers will share long range plans developed in grade teams outlining the curriculum content for the school year. Specialty teachers will also be on hand in our special education classes, music room, gym, drama&dance studio (which doubles as our lunchroom), French room and library (for our teacher-librarian and digital literacy teachers). This evening is for parents only as we cannot accommodate parents and children in our gym and classroom spaces. We look forward to seeing you on the 5th!<\/p>\n

Fire Drills<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

We have had two fire drills within the last week. The most recent fire drill, on Tuesday, was overseen by the local fire department. Allenby staff and students did an amazing job on both occasions leaving the building quietly, calmly and quickly. Firefighters from Station 135 were amazed that 818 students exited the building in just over 4 minutes on Tuesday. We will have our first lockdown drill in the first week of October. We will not inform the students of this drill beforehand, however, you may certainly do so if you feel that your child would respond more positively with advanced warning.<\/p>\n

Terry Fox Run<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This year is the 36th anniversary Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope. Allenby’s annual Terry Fox run is a day to celebrate Terry’s legacy and to continue to support Terry’s dream to find a cure for cancer. Allenby’s Terry Fox Run will take place this Friday September 23rd<\/strong> in the morning. Classes will make their way around the block (not crossing roads) and will return to the schoolyard to make two loops of the track. We are asking for “Toonies for Terry” donations. We will have a large jar at the start of the run to collect the donations. Thank you for supporting this wonderful cause.<\/p>\n
