In the first part of the talk, Dr. Almagor will discuss important questions people have about ADHD: What is it? How is it diagnosed? What are some of the consequences of ADHD if it’s not treated?<\/p>\n
Dr. Almagor and Sandra Newton will continue the second part of the talk looking at ways in which different treatments can help and achieve a growth mindset and perseverance in children and adolescents with ADHD. Sandra Newton will discuss psychotherapy approaches to ADHD such as Executive Functioning Remediation and Coaching. Parents of children and adolescents with ADHD face difficult choices in regards to whether or not they should try medication treatment.<\/p>\n
Dr. Almagor will then lead a discussion in regards to if and when a medication trial should be considered and which non-medication approaches to ADHD have been proven to be effective.<\/p>\n

Dr. Doron Almagor<\/strong>, MD FRCPC
\nChild and Adolescent Psychiatrist
\nDr. Almagor is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist (Royal College Subspecialty Certified) who completed his specialty training in Psychiatry at the University of Toronto and is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD and associated issues. He is the current Chair of CADDRA (The Canadian Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Resource Alliance). In addition to directing The Possibilities Clinic, he has an appointment with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto and The Hincks-Dellcrest Centre. He is the Past President of the Ontario Psychiatric Association (OPA) and has served as the Chair of the Psychotherapy section of the OPA. Dr. Almagor was trained as a psychoanalyst and is a member of the International Psychoanalytic Association. He has lectured internationally and taught a variety of courses in the areas of ADHD and its comorbid disorders such as school issues, learning disorders, anxiety and depression.
\nDr. Almagor received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toronto in 1990 and his post-graduate degree in Psychiatry in 1995 from the University of Toronto.<\/p>\n![\"48b24528-3c58-4419-83ce-97179cc6c0f4\"](\"http:\/\/allenbyparents.com\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/48b24528-3c58-4419-83ce-97179cc6c0f4-275x300.jpg\")
\nDoctoral Candidate in Child Clinical Psychology
\nSandra Newton is a child and youth clinician with a Master’s degree in Developmental Psychology and Education and doctoral training in Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology from The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. Sandra has worked with children, adolescents and families in school, hospital and private practice settings in the Greater Toronto Area.
\nAt Possibilities, Sandra provides psychoeducational assessment, psychotherapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Executive Functioning Remediation and Academic Remediation services under the supervision of the Clinic’s Registered Psychologists.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
