Emergency response agencies are desperate for funds. Although it is tempting to send items such as blankets and clothes, aid agencies <a href=\"http:\/\/www.international.gc.ca\/humanitarian-humanitaire\/canadians_help-aide_canadien.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">discourage this and repeatedly ask for funds during such crisis<\/a>. For this reason, the APA has come up with an event to raise money. As you have probably read, the Federal Government is matching each dollar donated by individuals to a registered charity that earmarks funds to this crisis. Funds raised through this event will go to <a title=\"Doctors Without Borders\" href=\"http:\/\/www.msf.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">M\u00c9DECINS SANS FRONTI\u00c8RES (MSF)\/ DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Please see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msf.ca\/campaigns\/typhoon-haiyan-relief-philippines\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.msf.ca\/campaigns\/typhoon-haiyan-relief-philippines\/<\/a> for information.<\/p>\n<p>As a way of engaging our children in this fundraising effort, and to support the Filipino community, the APA is coordinating the event: Helping Hands for the Philippines. We hope you and your children will participate.<\/p>\n<h2>The Fundraiser<\/h2>\n<p><a title=\"Hands Helping the Philippines\" href=\"http:\/\/allenbyparents.com\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/HANDS-HELPING-THE-PHILIPPINES.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Download a cut out hand and a form<\/a>. Kids are to complete five age-appropriate \u201cjobs\u201d or household tasks to earn money. We recommend they earn one dollar per \u201cjob\u201d but this amount is completely discretionary, as are the \u201cjobs\u201d. The child writes his\/her name on the hand and the \u201cjob\u201d on each finger. Once completed, the child brings back to his\/her teacher the following: (1) the cut out hand; and (2) the money earned with the accompanying completed form. Please keep the hand separate from the envelope containing the money and form.
