The DEI Committee is pleased to share information on heritage and history months celebrated by the TDSB. We encourage Allenby families to share their celebrations and traditions with us so that we can learn more about each other and connect as a community. Ramadan is a religious and spiritual month observed by Muslims around the world. This year, Ramadan begins on the 23rd or 24th of March (depending on the sighting of the moon). In addition to fasting, from sunrise to sunset, Muslims reflect, pray, cultivate self control and gratitude as well as give charity. The essence of Ramadan lies in self reflection and spiritual practices, observed throughout the month.<\/p>\n

During Ramadan, our family traditions include putting up colorful banners while discussing the fundamentals behind the spiritual month. To help engage the children, we follow an advent calendar which prompts family discussions on gratitude, honesty, humility, compassion and empathy, as seen in this picture:<\/p>\n
