Families should have already received the most recent letter from our Director, Donna Quan and the Chair of the Board, Robin Pilkey relating to the current labour situation and Progress Reports. A copy of this letter is on our school’s website as well for your reference. Please note that my ability to respond to emails and phone calls will be impacted during this challenging time. Please be patient, as response times may be longer than usual. Please trust that I am focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of all students while maintaining a culture for meaningful learning and student achievement at Allenby. I addressed the current job action and its’ impact on students at Allenby during my Principal’s update during the APA Meeting last night. Minutes will be made available on the APA website for your review.
On a brighter note, Halloween is in full force at Allenby! Today I offered two talks on bats for our JK-6 classes in the gym. This allowed teachers to have a break on a very rainy day which forced students to remain inside all day and allowed me to share my knowledge and love of bats. Room 211 challenged our classes to a pumpkin decorating competition this week. I worked tirelessly this weekend searching designs on Pinterest and then carving two pumpkins on behalf of the office staff, confident that we would win. After seeing my competition with the pumpkins that began to line the hallway outside of the office today, I am afraid winning is not in the cards this year. If you haven’t had a chance to see them, I have included pictures of the entries as display as of Wednesday evening. We are looking forward to our Halloween parade on Friday (kindergarten at 2:45 and Grades 1 to 6 at 3:00). Parents please gather on the turf and not on the pavement to ensure clear pathways for students. Thank you to the numerous volunteers who have been in this week, or will be in, assisting with pumpkin decorating, parties, Halloween activities, etc. Your support is invaluable!
