National Diabetes Awareness Month

Tuesday, November 14th was World Diabetes Day in honour of Sir Frederick Banting’s birthday. Sir Frederick Banting co-discovered insulin along with Charles Best in 1922 at University of Toronto. World Diabetes Day and National Diabetes Awareness Month is a opportunity to raise awareness about diabetes, the symptoms, and ways to support those living with diabetes. JDRF has said their “goal for this National Diabetes Awareness Month is to shine a light on the superheroes living with type 1 diabetes, their families and friends, their health care teams, and the researchers working to improve lives and find cures.”

Diabetes Canada states that approx. 1 in every 300 school-aged children have Diabetes.
