{"id":1881,"date":"2012-08-20T17:21:45","date_gmt":"2012-08-20T22:21:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/allenbyparents.com\/blog2\/"},"modified":"2015-09-28T10:46:06","modified_gmt":"2015-09-28T14:46:06","slug":"ecoschool-and-environmental-awareness","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/allenbyparents.com\/blog2\/health-and-safety\/ecoschool-and-environmental-awareness\/","title":{"rendered":"EcoSchool and Environmental Awareness"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"ecoschool\">\n<p>Allenby is committed to being as environmentally responsible as possible. <strong>We are a gold-rated EcoSchool.<\/strong> <a title=\"Ontario EcoSchools\" href=\"http:\/\/ontarioecoschools.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ontario EcoSchools<\/a> is a program that provides strict guidelines on teaching students to be environmentally conscious, as well as ensuring the school uses environmentally responsible operating practices.<\/p>\n<p>In partnership with the administration, the APA promotes environmental awareness and action within the school community through environmentally-friendly practices such as communicating primarily through e-mail, using two-sided copies, and recycling. In the school community, we support <a title=\"boomerang lunch\" href=\"http:\/\/allenbyparents.com\/blog2\/allenby-quick-facts\/snack-and-lunch-policy\/\">Boomerang (litterless) lunches<\/a>, recycling programs, and <a title=\"traffic safety\" href=\"http:\/\/allenbyparents.com\/blog2\/health-and-safety\/traffic-safety\/\">anti-idling programs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The EcoSchools program has components in four key areas: environmental literacy, waste minimization, energy conservation, and greening of the school grounds. To achieve gold status, our school earned at least 75 points out of a possible 100 points. We ask all the students to walk to school. Since we know that not all people can walk to school, we have some suggestions to allow everyone to participate.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you need to drive to work, and can\u2019t walk your child to school, take them to a friend\u2019s house and they can walk to school together.<\/li>\n<li>If it is too far to walk, park your car far enough away (at the corner of Castlefield and Castlewood) and walk from there.<\/li>\n<li>If your child is older, have them walk to school, and meet their friends along the way or perhaps even walk a younger child to school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Walking Wednesday Coordinator\u00a0\u2014 <a title=\"maryluz78@yahoo.com\" href=\"mailto:maryluz78@yahoo.com\">Maria Valencia<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Allenby is committed to being as environmentally responsible as possible.
